Myanmar (Burma) Cyclone Nargis response
Thousands of people have been killed or are missing in Myanmar (Burma) in the wake of Cyclone Nargis, which pushed ashore on May 3. Villages in the Irrawaddy Delta have been completely flattened. Overall one million people may be homeless.
CWS is initially providing emergency relief assistance -- particularly water, medical supplies, and shelter materials -- and anticipates the provision of long-term assistance through several of its partners in Myanmar. CWS Asia-Pacific Regional Office is coordinating assessment activities that will shape a long-term response.
